Just wanted to say, this is very, very true. Most of the die-hard TOS fans I know had difficulty with the movie, for a variety of reasons. Even the ones who enjoyed it overall still had quibbles about specific plot choices and characterisations--which I can totally understand. I mean, they blew up Vulcan! Vulcan. I'm a DS9 fan primarily and I'm far more attached to Bajor and Cardassia, but even I know you don't go blowing up Vulcan.
