I Googled, and there's even info about homemade versions of live traps out there--handy for those who don't want to spend money on something that will only be used once (hopefully.) I used a mouse-sized version, years ago. And then I'd release them with a piece of bread. (My husband was bemused; "You're packing them a lunch?")
Why do you want to write the unloved story--because something about it makes you happy, or because you feel you should? If it's a story you don't really want to tell just because you want to tell it, then it might not need to be told. Who is going to love it more than you, after all?
