I think it really does a wonderful look at how hard a relationship like this can be - especially for Atlantis, where chances are the only way someone will leave is in a body bag.
It's weird, I wasn't anticipating the whole thing about how the relationship is essentially doomed because Lorne's never going to leave Atlantis when I started it, it just sort of developed once I got going. But yeah - at least with Sheppard and Mitchell they're both in the SGC, so they understand, whereas Colby's never going to really know what's happening.
