There's always the chance Lorne will get transferred out of Atlantis, but he's not gonna actively choose.

In a way, there's no happy ending, because if he stays in Atlantis, their relationship is never going to really work right, but if he leaves, he's going to be miserable, because he belongs in Atlantis. Tis indeed very sad.
