it warms my heart to think that, rather than being broken-hearted, Katie is starting something new - really committing herself to Laura.
Yeah - I know we'll never see either of them ever again, but I like the idea that they both get happy endings (rather than, in Katie's case, exisitng solely to be Rodney's love interest). I just can't imagine that Katie actually ever intended that they'd be together forever - I always imagine them as kind of on again off again, and Katie was never really that committed to it (and neither was Rodney, he just talked himself into it, hence not being all that broken hearted by the next episode after she said no). And then once it's obviously over with Rodney, hey, she can go off with the girl she's been having occasional sex with for the last two years :)
