Definitely melancholy. Poor Cam! This is a great portrayal of the dark side of all those stories that show Cam being understanding and patient with John`s inability to express his feelings. But at least we know where they are seven years later, so obviously things don`t end here. Somewhere, somehow, John must say or do something to let Cam know he wants them to carry on in a relationship.
