Yes, I am posting about it instead of writing it, why do you ask? Mainly because Cameron just kissed John, and I'm not quite sure what comes next: angst and drama or hot sex? Considering they're in the very public locker room, and just came back from the rescue mission for Elizabeth, I'm thinking probably the former rather than the latter.
I'd forgotten, until I started this, just how much more complex writing something that's designed to be long is. The longest thing I've written in the last couple of years is Honor and Country, which came out at around 25,000 words, but I didn't mean it to get that long. It didn't have all the intentional other stuff that this does. I keep having to go back and write in bits so that the next scene doesn't seem like it's coming out of nowhere. I've got a page of handwritten notes, and I can't write without it there, because I'm worried I'll forget something, and I keep thinking of other stuff that has to be in there, or finding things that I mentioned and then forgot about it, like John vowing not to take Rodney on the rescue mission; I completely forgot I'd written that, and had to add in an explanation for why he is going after all.
I dunno - I've written long stuff before; I have a 100,000 word plus original novel sitting on my hard-drive, complete, for one. When I was writing that, I had a stack of extra documents as well - a chapter breakdown of what I'd already written, and notes for what I'd said about each character, and so on, as well as notes for what was coming up. Maybe I should have tried that this time. Too late now.
OKay, I'm done whining. Back to the kissing.
