From
sgastoryfinders: Someone-Sam? Lorne? observes that John had the right to tease Rodney-he'd earned the right, and Rodney knew John would never endanger him. But in casually tossing that right to Cam, John made a big mistake which he seemed unaware of, and John is duly punished (physically, by Ronon) and then all is well. Or at least back to normal.
Okay, if Rodney is so insecure that he truly believes that Cam, an officer in the air force, respected by a lot of people who know what they're talking about, who's never done anything to make Rodney think otherwise, would actually hurt him, this is not John's problem, it is a sign that Rodney needs some serious therapy.
And Ronon beating John until he learns his lesson is a sign that he needs some serious therapy as well.
I'm sorry, I know most Rodney fans are lovely, rational people, but some of them have some really screwy ideas about what constitutes mental good health and an okay way to be with your friends.
Okay, in fairness, I suppose it's possible that the fic was written to show that this is extremely unhealthy and that someone needs to be protecting John from his clearly disturbed friends, but from the tone of the request, I kind of doubt it.

I wouldn't bet a red cent.
OTOH, I think I've come out the other side to mostly throwing my hands in the air and exclaiming, "OH NOES TEH RODNEH FANS!" So, so ridiculous.
It's dragging Ronon, of all people, into the mess that adds that extra helping of WTF.

LOL Yeah.

Yeah, it makes me want to shake their metaphorical selves and go 'Ronon? Seriously, *Ronon*? Whatever you're smoking, stop.'

However, they all need therapy--badly--so, the scenario you present is not a surprise to me :)

This is indisputably true, but the summary strongly implies that the way they're acting is perfectly normal and healthy, rather than a sign that there's something wrong with them.

And then I watched it. ::headdesk:: Note to self - take opinions of rabid fangirls with a grain of salt.

Same here. Which is presumably why the Rodney-can-do-no-wrong people write him being a complete bastard to Rodney afterwards. Makes me wonder if maybe people wouldn't write such ludicrous Pegasus Project stuff if that hadn't been the week that Rodney, on Atlantis, drugged John with what was essentially a date rape drug. Maybe they wouldn't feel like they had to redeem him.

I do wonder what the reactions would have been if John had drugged Rodney. Or, if Rodney had drugged Teyla. Would that have been considered a cute and harmless gag?

Oh God, if John had done it to Rodney - it would have been worse than Trinity. If Rodney had done it to Teyla... well, I imagine fandom's reaction overall would have been a lot stronger than it was, but I do wonder how the crazy Rodney fans would have taken it. I mean, particularly considering Teyla's never done anything they could even twist to make it seem like she picks on Rodney.

And then some.
