Ask me about my unpopular fandom opinion, and I shall spew forth some vitriol for you. Or, you know, express an opinion. Depends how I'm feeling, really.
SGA fanon... in fairness, I'm not sure if this is just me being bitter, but I really think 'Rodney's a soft, woobie under his hard exterior, whom no-one understands.' It affects so many other things, like perceptions of John and the way people write him, the way people write Teyla's relationship with both of them (I hate fic where she tells John to be nicer to Rodney), the way people interpret Rodney's bad behaviour in episodes, the way they write him, the way they write Cam and Sam, the number of fics where John and the others have to apologise to Rodney for not appreciating him... I could go on, but I probably shouldn't :o)
John Sheppard fanon... oh, there's so many things I hate to choose from. 'John's only gay for Rodney,' possibly. It nicely combines my hatred for the 'I wasn't gay until I met you' and the 'Rodney's so wonderful' tropes. Or 'John never loved his wife, he was just trying to be normal' - it makes him a horrible person, and he tries not to hurt people, he wouldn't do that. Or 'John doesn't understand his own feelings/have any feelings' - he might not like/be good at talking about them, but the odd times that he does, it's pretty clear that he knows what he's thinking and feeling for himself. Being a private person doesn't mean he's a robot.
Yeah, I'd have to agree with you on both of these. Possibly it's my bias, but I think the Rodney fanon is worst because, as you say, it doesn't just affect how people perceive Rodney, but everyone around him. It's pervasive that way. John Sheppard fanon can be really annoying too, but doesn't tend to affect other characters to quite the same extent (at least as far as I've seen). John acting like an emotionless robot doesn't turn Teyla OOC, for instance.
Collective delusion? I mean, I prefer, obviously, to believe we're just wiser than the rest of fandom and thus able to see the truth, but I suspect people would more happily buy into 'mass delusion'

Also, what piece of John Sheppard fanon do you hate most?
