Construction For The Sexually Frustrated

The truth about Atlantis is, Sam's kind of bored a lot of the time, now that she isn't trying to balance missions and science and development, now that all she has to do is run a city that more or less runs itself.

Bored, and in charge, which means there's two people she could sleep with without it causing an issue, except that one of them is in love with a guy who's missing and the other one is in love with her best friend.

So: bored, in charge, in possession of a lot of free time, and sexually frustrated. It's really only a matter of time before she takes things into her own hands.

She starts out doodling designs in the margins of her notes while the department leaders give their weekly briefings, but then Major Lorne asks to borrow a piece of paper and it's only thanks to her having been halfway through her diagram that he says, "You want your... whatever that is... back, ma'am?" instead of, "Oh God, my eyes."

After that, she keeps her designs confined to a memory stick around her neck, locked behind a password.

The best of them, she keeps in her head, where she can take them out and use them any time she likes.

She never really intends to go beyond the design stage.

Then, hanging out in the engineering lab just so she can remember what being a scientist feels like, she starts fitting unused pieces together and realizes she's building her favorite design.

"Are you making anything in particular?" Dr Simpson asks, looking up just when Sam wishes no-one would.

"Not really," Sam says, starting to take it apart.

"Keep them," Simpson says, waving a careless hand. "If we ever need the parts, we know where to find you."

"Thanks," Sam says, and takes one of the endless supply of tiny Ancient batteries that's lying around, the ones that they've never really been able to successfully use to power any equipment from Earth, no matter how hard they try.

She gets halfway through the first frame before she sees how it's not going to work and takes it all apart, goes back to her file of computer designs and starts tweaking.

After an hour, she goes onto the shared server and downloads a CAD program, imports the design into there to keep working. She keeps looking over her shoulder, checking her firewalls. She feels stupid for doing it, laughs at herself every time, but she can't stop – even just drawing the designs feels illicit and dirty, but she's never been into humiliation. She's already working on her cover story, if anyone ever finds out.

It takes her a week to come up with what she thinks is the perfect design, and of course that's when three teams go missing on three separate missions, leaving her wishing for bored. She keeps wearing her memory stick on its cord around her neck, but that's all she can do, and by the time they get everybody home safe, she's half forgotten what's even on it.

Until she goes back to her quarters and finds the small pile of metal and the tiny battery, waiting for her on her desk.

She only intends to start on the frame, do a few minutes before she takes a shower and goes to bed, but like most projects, it's easy to fall into. When she next looks at the clock, it's four hours later, and she's almost done.

All that's missing is something to fit into the empty grip in the middle of the machine.

That, she thinks, may prove to be the hard part. In every sense of that word.

There are some things you just can't take on a trip to another galaxy when they're going to search your bag before you leave – condoms are one thing, if you don't mind the raised eyebrows, but sex toys are a whole other thing, and also not something she can run down to the infirmary for.

She thinks about making her own; it's not like she couldn't, given the time and the materials, but while she has the former, the latter is more of a problem.

She ends up thinking it might have been easier to do it herself anyway, when it takes her three weeks to acquire what she wants through other avenues.

It's worth it, though, when she can lie back on her bed, press play on her tiny remote control, and be fucked until she's exhausted and sated and sore, without having to put any effort into it, at all.

Sexual frustration is the mother of invention? :D

This is a fantastic display of Sam's, uh, innovative nature.
