Care
Laura's first instinct, when someone reaches out from the trees at the edge of the bonfire, is to shove back with her elbow and her head and go for the gun she isn't wearing. In the split second before she does that, she's pulled back against a familiar body and Katie says, "It's me."
Laura relaxes, leaning back into her and wrapping a hand over Katie's arm around her waist. "Shouldn't do that," she says mildly.
"Shouldn't do this, either," Katie says, spinning Laura and pushing her up against a convenient tree, then trapping her there with her hands on either side of Laura's waist. For a long moment, she just looks at Laura, her eyes bright in the darkness. Then she leans in and kisses her.
Laura goes with it for a second, resting her hands on Katie's hips. "We can't," she says, pulling back and glancing around automatically. Back at the party, she can hear loud laughter, a couple of catcalls, only slightly muffled by the trees. "Anyone might come back here."
"No-one has yet," Katie says.
"They might hear," Laura says.
"They won't," Katie says. She shifts her weight, so she's got one leg pressed between Laura's and both hands free, then holds one hand up to Laura's face. "I'll make sure."
Laura opens her mouth to ask how, and gets Katie's hand pressed across her mouth, muffling anything she might say. "Oh," she says anyway.
Katie obviously hears it, leaning in to kiss Laura's cheek just above her hand. "Not just with me for my looks," she says, and reaches between them to open Laura's jeans.
Laura slides a hand down over the curve of Katie's ass, figuring this is a reciprocal thing. Instead, Katie takes her wrist and removes her hand, puts it back against the tree. She presses in close, warm against Laura through their thin t-shirts, and says, low in her ear, "I'll wait until later."
Laura shivers, and it has nothing to do with the cool breeze that runs through the trees at the same moment. She's seen the strap-on Katie has in her bottom drawer, and she knows Katie doesn't intend for Laura to be the one wearing it.
"That's what I thought," Katie says, looking smug, and lets go of Laura's wrist to slide her hand between her legs.
Katie's hands are cool in the night air, and she doesn't mess around, going exactly for what Laura likes best. They can't kiss, and Katie can't touch any where else, her hands occupied with Laura. Every breath Laura takes smells of Katie's skin, fresh and green from the plants she was messing with earlier in the day.
She closes her eyes, tries not to think about her colleagues and bosses, only feet away. Concentrates instead on the feel of Katie's fingers, the pressure of her hand over Laura's mouth. Katie chooses that moment to twist her fingers, and Laura moans, too loud, ever muffled by Katie's hand.
"Ssh," Katie says quietly and moves her hand, pressing tighter over Laura's mouth, her nose.
Laura's next breath comes short. She makes a small, startled noise, embarrassingly close to a squeak, and Katie moves her fingers inside Laura the same way again, makes her squeak again in much the same way.
She tried to twist away from Katie's hand over her mouth, but it doesn't work. And, okay, maybe she doesn't try all that hard, because Katie's fucking her with her fingers and Laura's getting close and...
And the edges of her vision go a little hazy as she doesn't get enough air. She feels light-headed and weak-kneed, and all she can feel is Katie, all around her, totally focused on her. She's pretty sure she wouldn't notice if Woolsey and Sheppard walked past them, and then she's sure she wouldn't notice, because Katie twists and presses and Laura comes, tries to take a breath to groan with it and can't.
Everything fades out, and she can hear the blood pounding in her ears, the air sharp and cool in her throat, and the next thing that's really clear is Katie's arms around her, the ground under her knees as Katie holds her close and says, "It's okay, I've got you, breathe."
Laura complies, resting her head on Katie's shoulder. At least if anyone comes by, she'll probably only look like she's either drunk or upset.
Katie pets her hair. "You okay?" she asks.
"Yeah," Laura says. She can still feel a faint tremor running under her skin. She doesn't think Katie hindered her breathing for very long, but she's still not quite ready to say whether she liked it or not.
She is sure that she feels light-headed, bright and sharp like the aftermath of an adrenaline rush, before the crash.
"We should go back," she says.
Katie holds on tighter, and Laura relaxes into it, lets the tremor run through her body. "Not yet," Katie says. "Not unless you want people wondering what you were taking."
"I don't look like I'm stoned," Laura says.
Katie laughs a little, soothing a hand down Laura's back. "Trust me, you look something. Stay here with me for a while."
Laura feels like she should protest more, but she doesn't want to. She drifts a little instead, listening to her own heartbeat settle, and finally says, "Did you do that on purpose?"
"Stop you breathing?" Katie asks. "No. I didn't realize. I should have been more careful."
"You could," Laura says. The words come out without much thought, but she feels okay about them. She liked it, Katie being in control like that, literally her life in Katie's hands.
"We'll talk about it when you're less out of it," Katie says firmly. "If we're going to do it again, we won't do it like that. I won't be so careless."
With you, Laura hears at the end of that, and it makes her smile, turn her head so she can press a kiss to Katie's throat, since it's right in front of her. Careless, but she doesn't care.
"I like it," she says.
"Okay," Katie says, and doesn't let go.

She's a smart woman; she'd have to be to get selected for Atlantis.
Exactly! It drives me nuts that she supposedly decided to go back just because she and Rodney broken up.
