What's the verb for a motor boat? Do you sail it? Drive it? Something else?

I'm writing SGA fic again. I haven't written fic in ages, not since my flyboys fic back in January and I've *missed* it. Is it crazy to miss fictional characters? Because I miss John and Cam and Lorne and Ronon and Keller and Cadman. Even though they're not real.

Actually, don't answer, I already know the answer!

If it's got a motor, you can drive it. (Or steer it? Pilot it?) You wouldn't sail a motor boat.

Hee! Nope, it is absolutely not crazy to miss fictional characters. Or if it's crazy, then I'm right there with you. *g* Glad you're writing again! I've been stalled myself, on all fronts, and the deadline for satedan_grabass is coming up.

Maybe not pilot. Navigate? But yes, I think drive is the most appropriate action verb for your "Here is a motor boat. Now what?" scenario.

I really need to get my act together--my prompts require more real plotting than my usual tropefic or react-to-canon-event fic. Good luck on yours!

*Googles* I'm finding 'operating' a lot, and 'driving'. And depending on your context, 'cruising', 'launching', or 'going for a spin' might work.

DON'T TRY TO TELL ME THEY AREN'T REAL. *glares*

in the USA, motor boats are driven. Speaking from experience.

you can also go motoring in a motorboat but that may not be the part of speech you're looking for.

heh. motor boat, can also be used as a verb itself...
