How are we on episode 9 already? That's, like, a third of the way through the season.

OK, leaving aside the question of where Teyla was and why we didn't get a mention of why she was there rather than on Earth (and it's a good thing I'm more tolerant of these things in my TV than my fic, because there's many a fic I've closed down because Ronon (or Ford) and Teyla were mysteriously absent from a mission with no explanation given; I'm easy to pacify, a simple, oh they got through the gate already/didn't come on this one because they were off trading/are just over the next hill/are impressing the locals with their fighting prowess in some kind of competition would do).

Um, that sentence got a bit out of hand. Moving on...

Jeannie is so pretty. She should definitely turn up more. And Madison is sweet but not overly-tv-kid-sweet. Also, I like that Caleb doesn't appear to be turning into a cliche how-dare-you-use-your-brain-instead-of-devoting-all-your-time-to-your-family husband. They seem, you know, normal, not counting the fact the Jeannie consults for a top secret space exploration programme.

I sort of guessed the daughter (what was her name? I was too distracted by the pretty flowers on her nightdress - to signify just how completely innocent she was, in case we didn't realise - to remember it) wasn't going to make it. I mean, everything was neatly resolved by about 35 minutes in, that was way too simple. I thought she was going to turn into some kind of evil replicator though, so shows what I know (apparently not a lot).

As evidenced by the fact that I figured Sheppard (once he knew what Rodney was planning with the Wraith) was going to offer himself to be fed on, given his history of noble self-sacrifice at the drop of a hat, and that his relationship with the Wraith would be enough to convinve him to give John his life back. So, you know, not so much with the predictions there.

That whole 'I just presented the scenario' thing is a polite fiction to make Rodney feel better about the fact that John basically sacrificed some guy's life for his, though, right? I mean, John had the photos in his pocket, *we're* not supposed to be buying that argument, are we? I don't think Rodney really buys it either, but I think he wants to, as much because John clearly wants him to as for anything else.

I've seen a whole range of ideas about John's thought process in what he did, but my theory is that John's basically terrified of losing anyone else he cares for and while he will do whatever he has to in order to avoid that, it was a split second, adrenaline fuelled kind of response, and one that he'll freak out about once it's over. I mean...the look on his face when he thought Rodney was dead in Doppelganger, the way he looked when he found out Kate had died, or when they lost Elizabeth to the Replicators. I think he'd do anything to avoid having to go through that any more than he needs to. It's basically the theory of the story-line in Fool Me Once, that John's lost a lot of people in the last few years and doesn't want to anymore. But I don't think he's okay with what he did, like some people have suggested, even if he does think Rodney's life had more value than Devlin (Devlin, right? I'm rubbish with names).

I wonder what he told Ronon. Or what Rodney told Jeannie. Or what any of them told Teyla (seriously, where the hell was she?) when they got back.

OK, I think I had other things to say about the episode, but since I got totally distracted by John Sheppard and his issues, I've forgotten them, so I shall go back to my under misteltoe fic (no idea of the word count since I'm handwriting it and can't be bothered to count, but I'm kind of freaking out about how long it's going to be - why do I never have nice short ideas any more?!)
