Contrary to my cynical expectations of politicans, the UK government today voted down a proposal to force anyone getting IVF treatment to have both a father and a mother. They also voted down an amendment to force IVF clinics to only allow treatment to women who could prove they had a 'male role model' for the child.

They also voted down a proposal to lower the abortion limit to 12 weeks.

So apparently they're not a total dead loss to society after all.

Yay!

I was quite shocked to discover that they actually had a shred of sense between them! Except the idiots who thought that starting these particular bits of legislation were a good idea, they're just gits.

I know. Who'd have thought it of the UK government?

Of course, now half the papers are saying stupid things like - this is making women more important then men, and doing away with the need for a father altogether. Because, you know, one minute it's saying that you can have a stable family without a man, the next it's getting rid of all men and making everyone have IVF, since hardly anyone these days either conceives by having sex with a man, and almost none of the couples going for IVF are male/female couples.

Nope, it's all about giving lesbians and single women completely ridiculous rights.

Sorry - I really should have known better than to read the Daily Mail in the office.
