Is it ever mentioned where the 302s on Earth are actually based? I always assumed Area 51, but I can't find anything that says. Or could they be based at the SGC? Since it's an Air Force base...

Because, yeah, I just realised that if Cam's not on SG1 but is still at the SGC, I kind of need something for him to *do*, which I should maybe have figured out before I started writing. Such is life.

My guess would be Nellis Air Force Base, which is near Area 51, or Area 51 itself. Peterson, which is the closest airfield to Cheyenne Mountain, is way too public for the 302s to be based there. One or two have dropped in from time to time, but that's always been temporary.

I'm not sure what else Cam could be doing other than leading a different team, although he could be doing some of the administrative stuff that goes on behind the scenes. It woudln't be terribly exciting, more likely than not. It's also remotely possible that he might get a ship, although at this time I think only the Prometheus and Daedalus were finished. He doesn't quite have the rank for it, though.

Curses. I was afraid people would say that.

Actually, that might work - it's in the not-that-distant future, so he's been on SG1, but he needs to not be any more. Admin stuff because he got injured might work.

If it's after SG-1, it might be conceivable that he's the base XO. He'd be the one overseeing administration, personnel issues, discipline, logistics, all that sort of operational stuff that needs to happen around the SGC. He should be a full colonel by then, since Sam got promoted (somehow) and he had time in grade over her. While there are others with more seniority then him, like Reynolds, they might prefer to stay on off-world teams or go elsewhere, and being on SG-1 would probably count for a lot, especially if he still did some diplomatic functions.

Alternatively, he might be assigned to command the Alpha Site, which has the benefit of having its own 302 squadron. That might not be quite what you're looking for, though. It would still have him regularly at the SGC for meetings and such.

Ooh, I love the idea of Cam in charge of the Alpha site. You're right, it wouldn't fit this story, but it's a great idea.

I think it really matters when you're placing this... because I was under the impression that he was pure 302 pilot, which were given certain clearances, but pretty much located where ever they keep the 302's and I don't think they ever mentioned anything on it. Then after he was injured, was given full and high to the sky clearances and reassigned to the SGC

Yeah - it's in the not-too-distant future, so he's been on SG1, but I needed something for him to be doing other than being on the team now. So he'd keep his clearance if he went back for some reason...

You might want to check the SG-1 ep "The Fourth Horseman" (9.10, Gateworld informs me). Lt. Fischer (carrying the Prior plague) attends a ceremony where Hammond is the guest speaker, and there are F-302s in the background. Not 100% sure if they mention the name of the base when they race of to fetch Fischer, but they might

Cool, thanks!
