Full-length stories written: 35
Shorts: Counting comment fic, 5 things fic, first kiss meme fics, and Christmas ficlets…actually, I have no idea. About the same probably
Total word count: 237,642 (about 45,000 fewer than last year, though last year I did SGA big bang, which accounted for about 80,000 words)
Pairing Stats:
(I’m cheating and just listing pairings – counting is too complicated, and I think it’s safe to say I’m still writing more John/Cam than anything else)
Gateverse: John/Cam, John/Ronon, John/Rodney, Ford/Keres, Cam/Teal’c, Jack/Daniel, Jack/Cam, Jack/Daniel/John, John/Jack, Ronon/Lorne, Davis/Lorne, Dean Winchester/Lorne; Sam/Teyla, Weir/Cadman, Sora/Teyla, Vala/Sam, Sam/Cadman, Vala/Cadman, Vala/Keller; Keller/Ronon, Keller/Rodney, Sam/Cam, Vala/Rodney.
Generation Kill: Nate/Brad, Brad/Ray
Numb3rs: Colby/Lorne
Firefly: Inara/Zoë, Inara/Kaylee
My favorite story this year (of my own): Reorientation in which Ford comes back to Atlantis at the start of season 2 and ends up on a team with Lorne, Cadman, and a Pegasus native. I’d been wanting to write it for literally years, and it’s my big ‘Ford gets saved’ AU, so I’m attached to it on those grounds, and it was fun to write.
My best story this year: Gray Skies Surround Me (the Vegas AU). Testament to the power of having no internet, maybe, but I’m really pleased, even nearly a year on, with how this worked out, from the plot to the characters to the atmosphere in the story.
Story most tragically underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: The universe has been kind to me this year, I don’t think anything I’ve written has been tragically underappreciated (or indeed non-tragically underappreciated). I don’t know why not.
Most fun story: Fidel Castro in the Fridge in which Teyla and Carter swap bodies. It was fun to write, and it’s hopefully at least a bit fun to read (humour’s not really my thing).
Most sexy story: I tell you what I have noticed – there’s been a down-turn over the year in how much sex I’ve written. It’s much more common for me to write pairing fic in which they never have on-screen sex. That said, most sexy story is probably A Whole Other Level, which is basically pwp, John and O’Neill and John getting turned on by O’Neill in his dress uniform.
Story with the single sexiest moment: One Wild Night, succubus-induced sex between Dean Winchester and Lorne, though weirdly, I think the sexiest moment isn’t when they’re actually having sex, but when Lorne’s leaning against the wall watching Dean be really good at pool, and they would have gone home together right after even if they hadn’t ended up having sex in an alley.
Interesting note about my perception of the sexiest moments I’ve written: the three years including this one that I’ve done this meme, all three moments have been not actual sex (this, Lorne and Sheppard smoking and kissing in the dark, and John drawing hearts on Rodney). Which may explain why I’m not great at writing actual sex scenes – I find other stuff sexier. Either that or I’m just mentally warped. Could be that.
Most unintentionally telling story: Message Drift is basically two and a half thousand words of ‘why I think most interpretations of Rodney’s, John’s and Cam’s behaviour around Pegasus Project and Irresistible suck,’ but that’s not really unintentionally telling, since it pretty much says that right there in the header. Everything else is boringly lacking in subliminal messages about me, sorry.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for me" story: Trick of the Light, no question (the one where Jack and Daniel set John up for a threesome he doesn’t know he’s having and don’t let him get off). I don’t know where that came from – I wouldn’t say I love Jack and Daniel, but I’m at worst indifferent to them.
Story that shifted my own perception of the characters: Trick of the Light to an extent, because I have this idea for a John/Cam/Jack threesome that I’m failing to write because now in my head Jack’s really manipulative, and it’s not that kind of story. And there’s a bunch of stuff about characters I never wrote much of before (Inara, Morgana, Paul Davis) which I suppose shifted it a bit, since I’d never thought about them enough to have any kind of deep perception.
Hardest story to write: Gone, my Firefly little bang story. I had the basic premise before I started (Kaylee’s missing, the crew are looking for her) but it was originally going to be Mal pov gen, and I think in retrospect that switching it to Inara pov femslash was a bad idea, because I found it so hard to get to the end, and wasn’t as happy with the end result as I wanted to be.
Worst story: Rolling Away (sorry, skieswideopen, since I wrote it for her), Return’verse when John’s about to go back. It would have been more effective, probably, if I hadn’t already written stuff that comes after, where it’s clear that John and Cam do manage to keep their relationship going – kind of wrecks the sense of wistfulness at the end.
Easiest story to write: Inevitable (John/Cam first kiss post-Enemy at the Gate). It’s sad, it’s John/Cam, it’s John pov, it was bound to be easy to write. Either that or Hold Still (Let The Earth Move You), which is Generation Kill, Nate coming back from war. I find Nate pov war-related angst very, very easy. I do not know why this should be.
Story I'd like to revise (but probably won't): Where They Understand You, the Pegasus B&B gen AU. I don’t know how I’d revise it, is the problem, but I wasn’t entirely happy with it even when I posted it. I don’t know what I’m not happy with though, so there we go.
Story I wish I'd finished: I actually have this thing where I have to finish everything I start, preferably before I start something else, so I don’t have many unfinished things lying around. I did start a story that was going to be for one of the SGA Santa pinch-hitters, in which John’s kept back on Earth at the end of The Return, and he and Cam hook up, but I decided it was very likely to get long, and I have SG Flyboys deadline looming, so it’s temporarily shelved. Also, I think I might want to write a different story in that AU instead (the one where Carter goes as the replacement military commander and it becomes Carter/Weir Femslash)
Story I didn't write but swear I will, someday: Of the two stories I said I’d write last year (John/Cam flying school AU and Ford alternate season 2) I’m at 50% :o) But I think I might do the former as original fic instead.
But I’m partway through a sequel to What Happens Next, which is going very slowly but should be finished next year, I’m going to write my Vega/Keller alternate season 5 fic, and I’ve got this idea for a Numb3rs fic where Colby goes to Washington after all, after the spy thing, and the entire story might be just phone calls between him and Megan. Also a Gen Kill fic in which Brad breaks Nate’s heart without entirely meaning to, and possibly a mind-reading Daniel/Cam fic. All of which I might actually write in 2010, unless I sign up for a big bang challenge (please, somebody stop me!)

Also, you know you want to sign up for, say, Summer of Stargate... :D
No I don't. Don't tempt me (fiend!)
