Do Atlantis or the SGC have a way of knowing where they're being dialled from, if someone doesn't tell them? So if say Todd the Wraith dialled Atlantis, could they tell what planet he dialled in from?
I'm inclined to say no, but I can't remember if it ever came up on the show to say one way or the other (or indeed came up in the eight seasons of SG1 I haven't seen, yes, I suck as an SG1 fan).

HARRIMAN: We have unscheduled offworld activation.
(Colonel Samantha Carter runs into the room and sits down at the control desk beside Walter.)
HARRIMAN: Receiving transmission.
(At that moment, the Stargate closes down again. Walter looks surprised that it closed down so quickly. On Sam's computer monitor, data is streaming across the screen.)
HARRIMAN: Who's it from?
(Sam looks at the screen, then turns round to Walter with a surprised expression on her face.)
CARTER: Atlantis!
I want to say there are other instances where they know who is dialing in, but exact scenes are failing me. I would think that Carter's jury rigged dialing program doesn't, and Atlantis' more integrated gate functions does. I think the SGC relies on the IDC from the GDO.
