Thing 1: I have an offer up in the
help_japan auction, which is here. It's pretty non-specific, except in terms of fandoms, so I guess anything goes. Kind of.
Thing 2: I just signed up for this year's remix challenge. I haven't done remix in years, weird.
Thing 3: I so want to write a Hawaii Five-O/SGA crossover, where John gets posted in Hawaii teaching people to fly helicopters after the end of season 5, and he and Steve meet up again when Steve goes home, and it turns out they used to be involved with each other and... I swear, John Sheppard is like some kind of compulsion with me, I can't write anything without him in it.
Thing 4: A meme, because... I don't know why. Just because: Give me a story (and a particular character in it if you want) and I'll tell you three things that didn't make it into the story. For your reference, fic index

For the meme, how about Transference or Fall, Fall, Fall?

Three things that didn't make it into Fall, Fall, Fall:
1. Keller has her network of spies out trying to keep an eye on Lorne, because she and Dr Suresh talk to each other, and Keller's really worried about him. Trouble is, all of her spies are her and Lorne's mutual friends, so he doesn't even have to think about it to avoid them.
2. Lorne thinks that John offers to speak at the memorial for the people they lost in the invasion to protect everyone else in Atlantis, and because the people who died for Lorne wouldn't want him to speak for them. Actually, John does it to protect Lorne, to keep from reminding everyone of what happened to him, and because he knows that it's only a matter of time before Lorne falls apart, and he doesn't want it to be in front of everyone.
3. John had marines volunteering to go back to the planet that took Lorne hostage and punish them, before he even got as far as confirming they were going to do it. He sent a four person team through, and let Lorne sign off on it because it was the only way he had of telling Lorne that they were doing it. The team found recordings of everything Lorne said, and destroyed them. They never tell anyone about that.
Transference, sadly, was like pulling teeth to write, so there isn't anything that didn't make it in :)

I like how everyone is out to protect Lorne here. Especially John. The military (and Atlantis in general) taking care of its own.

And this is why I gave you a choice! :)

Hopefully one where you can write about other people alongside. There's one McShep story that I'd love to remix, even though it's pretty much the two of them stranded the whole way through, because I want to write about everyone back home. So hoepfully you get one like that, that inspires you.
Or a John/Cam shipper, of course :)

Actually, it would almost be fun to get one of those poor!stoic!Rodney McShep stories and rewrite it to be more in-character (as per my interpretation of the characters), except that would probably hurt the writer's feelings and I'd rather not do that.
And of course, I could get a John/Cam shipper. Our numbers seem to be growing. :D

Re-doing poor stoic Rodney would also be tempting, but yeah, sort of mean in the end. Though I've got to admit, anyone who writes Keller as an evil harpie who I end up remixing for is going to get their world view shaken and I kind of don't care if it hurts their feelings or it's mean!
Apparently I'm a little too invested in Keller!

I think if a story engaged in character-bashing, it's fair to shake it up a bit. And even rewriting poor Rodney could be done in a somewhat subtle fashion. Maybe.
