Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] idyll:

Give me a character (or a pairing) from any of my fandoms (Atlantis, season9/10 SG1, Firefly, early seasons West Wing), and I'll give you three facts from my personal "fanon" for that character (or pairing).

John/Cam

1. They've been in and out of each others' lives for so long that they actually have to work back through their service records to remember when and where they met. When they ran into each other at the SGC for the first time (both in their dress uniforms, Cam for his first day, John for his promotion), it was like the ultimate freaky coincidence (seriously, a couple of days later, and they would have completely missed each other). John didn't find out for another six months that Cam was the injured 302 pilot everyone talked about when he first got to the SGC.

2. The handful of people who know about their relationship think it's weird that neither of them are bothered by the fact that they live in two different galaxies; John and Cam think it's weird that everyone else is so bothered by it. "Seriously," John says, more than once, "our friends watch too many romantic comedies." One of these days, one or both of them will be injured out of the service; they'll have plenty of time to play house when they're not busy saving the world.

3. They both agree that life would be, in many ways, a lot easier if the military stopped caring about who they sleep with. That said, they've both gotten pretty good at keeping it secret and, honestly, neither of them are all that sure they'd want people to know. At least this way, they don't usually find out that the other one nearly died until he's already recovering and it's too late to worry. Considering how the number of times something bad happens, they'd probably both be dead from the stress within a couple of months if someone felt the need to tell them every time it happened.

I like your fanon, yes.

Thank you! I love the idea of their friends being all, "But - sex! and you like him! and regular sex!" while John or Cam stares at the person and goes, "well, yes, but saving the world, so, you know..." I justhaven't figured out a way to work it into a fic yet :)

I'm certain that you will though. Love is grand, but there's a reason these two joined the military - setting aside their desire to fly. Its part of their character for them to want to save lives - to save the world, two galaxies - and to strip that away for sex wouldn't make all that much sense to them at this point. I see them making sacrifices of their careers at some point, but only once they feel that the threat of the wraith/ori/villian of the week was gone. On the other hand, there is the thought that they should live in the moment somewhat, that they could die at any time - which is why they take what they can when they can.

Yes, exactly! I think there would definitely come a point where one or other of them would say, ok, enough, and then they'd have to worry about being together (like in Thin Thread Left, where John loses his team and they defeat the Wraith, and that's the point where he can go do something else), but they're both very 'duty and honor'. As you say, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for their characters for them to give it up without something to push them.
