Quick question...

At the start of the episode, John says that the SGC doesn't have a ZPM, so a trip home means three weeks on the Daedalus as well, to get back to Atlantis. And in Echoes, Elizabeth says that, of the three ZPMs from when the Ancients were on Atlantis, Atlantis got one, one went to the Antarctic outpost, and one went to the Odyssey.

The Odyssey was destroyed, I think (ETA: all right, not the Odyssey. I'm mixing it up with the Prometheus, which really was destroyed), so now there's only one on Earth, but then how have they been dialling Atlantis, like in Miller's Crossing when they, presumably, dialled Atlantis to ask them to send the Wraith? Also, Sam came through the gate when she came to Atlantis, so how did they dial the gate to send her?

I only ask, because that one sentence totally derailed a major plot point in my santa fic and I need a fix. Not that I couldn't come up with one, probably, but if canon already supplied one, since they just supplied the problem, that would be nice :)

Grr, just one more thing not to like about that episode.

Miller's Crossing takes place before Midway, so theoretically they could use the midway station somehow to relay the message (I think this is what they say in Adrift, when we see Carter and Lee on the station trying to find Atlantis). Everyone who arrives after the station is destroyed beams down, e.g. Woolsey in The Seed, from the Daedalus.

Rats, I'd forgotten about that. Thanks.

Though it still doesn't explain what they're using to send messages from Earth - the IOA member last week thought the fake message was from Earth, and no-one questioned that it could have been sent (just that it hadn't), but they didn't have anything to let them do that during season 1. Not that it would help with the people sending thing, but what is it?!

Could they have had a partially depleted ZPM, and it's now dead? Not up to speed with s5, but I'm pretty sure they had something prior to that...

They could, I suppose, though I don't think they ever mentioned having one. Makes more sense than anything else.

Odyssey's not destroyed and I'm thinking it's like the data burst they sent in the end of the first season maybe. Very short connection, usually just uploads and downloads, not direct face-to-face contact.

Odyssey's not destroyed

You're right - I think I'm thinking of the Prometheus, which of course got destroyed in season 9 so wouldn't have needed one of the ZPMs by the time they found them, because it was in several hundred peices.

Very short connection, usually just uploads and downloads, not direct face-to-face contact.

Well, sure, but still - what do they power the gate with to send them? They used up the last bit of power in their ZPM to dial home at the end of season 1, which implies they couldn't do it with anything else, so what are the SGC using? They must have *something*

It was The Prometheus that was destroyed, towards the end of SG-1's season 9. They mention it in Phantoms. So, the Odyssey's ZPM must still be available?

It was The Prometheus that was destroyed

Yeah, I realised that after I went to bed :)

So, the Odyssey's ZPM must still be available?

Yeah, but I guess the Odyssey is using it for whatever it does, so it's probably not available for zapping people between universes, more's the pity. Which is not to say it couldn't be temporarily available of course...
