Seriously, when did I lose the ability to go for more than a couple of days on only 5 hours sleep? I know I used to pull all nighters doing my first degree, and that was only a few years ago. Ugh, is this what getting old is going to feel like?

Okay, yes, I'm totally procrastinating instead of reading for my seminar, but I swear, the words are starting to dance around the page, which, while kind of cool, doesn't help me with the understanding. Also, there is something truly depressing about reading sociological theorists from the 60s, one of whom is talking about people who lie about a 'major flaw', like being 'racially impure' or 'deflowered'. Leaving the first one alone, as I think we can all fill in how wrong that is for ourselves, and it really is sad to realise that this was okay to say less than 50 years ago, since when is being deflowered a flaw?! Well, 1959, apparently. Also, to the guy who talks about a hypothetical grouping of 'a man, a bisexual woman and a lesbian' - what, men are by default straight (which this one was, it became clear in the analogy) and lesbians don't have a gender? Also, since when do we spell lesbian with a capital L? It's hard to get behind someone's theory when you realise their view of society really doesn't bear a lot of resemblance to your own. And, guy who only talks about women as paranoid drivers, obsessed with the size of their feet (?!) and all nurses everywhere - I know you were writing at a time when feminism was a new thing, but do you really have to be so patronising? Can't you all just present your theories without making me want to write abusive notes to you in the margins of the book (not a good idea when it's a library copy)?

OKay, sociological rant over.

14valentines squee - nine down, five to go! Going to make it, going to make it!

Ugh, being sick sucks. The sneezing fits I can handle, but I could seriously live without the excessive light-headedness and the tendency to walk into things (more so than usual).

On the other hand, as times to get sick go, this is about the least incovenient of the next few weeks, so I suppose there's that.

Sadly, it's done nothing for my ability to concentrate for more than five minutes, so 14 valentines are going... slowly. Current tally is:

1. Jennifer Keller back-story (surprisingly not needing much revision in light of last week's episode, and no, that's not a spoiler)
2. Teyla/Sora Sora's point of view from Noble Form
3. Rodney on Earth telling Cameron what will happen if he does anything to hurt John
4. John/Cameron/Lorne during The Return
5. More of the John in SG1 without the gene au.

Plus...
1. About two thirds of a future Atlantis story in which the Wraith have just been defeated
2. A few lines of Laura Cadman backstory with Major Lorne.

But here's my question: when did I lose my ability to write happy cheerful stuff? I mean, okay, I've never written much of the skipping through a field of daisies and singing style things, but everything I'm writing for this is angsty and moderately unhappy. And the worst thing is, I'm not sure it's going to get any better, since the list of stuff still to be written includes Ronon/Lorne during Doppelganger (in which episode, Lorne nearly shoots his CO and then Ronon zaps him unconscious) and something about Heightmeyer and her fear of heights which I strongly suspect is going to involve someone (not her) falling from a great height.

That said, maybe Laura and Lorne can be cheerful and happy and chaos causing. To make up for the fact that the future Atlantis story involves the death of a large number of people. :(

1. Essay 2 out of 3 is done - will now go and pass out, thank you (what I get for writing it till 2.30am, getting up at 7 and working a ten hour day). Was interestingly full of 'there' when it should have been 'their' until it was proof read. Trying not to think about what I missed.

2. Lorne/Mitchell/Sheppard threesome fic is done, with a shocking small amount of actual sex. I don't know - I can't write explicit sex scenes in Lorne's head, I don't know why. I get all squirmy, and I can't imagine how he actually thinks about sex.

3. Keller fic! Well, to come. Currently it consists of one four line sentence, but it's a start. Then Sheppard in SG1 AU, then something about Katie, depending on the contents on this week's Atlantis (please, get rid of the stupid relationship plot - I like Katie, but I hate than subplot).

4. New Torchwood tonight, and I don't have a tv :( Anyone know where I can find a download - my usual sources have failed me.

5. Heroes, oh my god, why did no-one mention that Mohinder Suresh has the most gorgeous accent I've heard since my Dublin-born Irish history seminar tutor? I could listen to him talk all day, even if it was about genetic theory that I didn't understand. His voice is lovely (sorry, I have a total thing for accents - I used to glaze over just listening to my tutor's voice, which was very embarrassing when she asked me questions).

6. If you haven't already, run, don't walk (if it's possible to do either on the internet) to leahwoof's journal and read her Soul and the Company Store fic, then read the sequel, which will make no sense without having read the prequel but features Lorne and Mitchell and Sheppard and is the most adorable thing I've ever read. To say more would be to spoil it, but seriously - this is the reason I was even later going to bed than I should have been last night. The sequel is even gen, if that helps (the main part is McKay/Sheppard, if *that* helps).
