Now watch me forget half of what I wanted to say, so, in no particular order:
1. I just wrote two thirds of my assignment today, after putting it off all of yesterday (okay, so I lifted 600 words directly from my research proposal, but it's not like they're irrelevant words!)
2. My cat does not like this whole 'work' thing; she keeps coming and staring at me and meowing until I play with her
3. I want to ask out this girl? To see The Last Waltz, by The Band, possibly my favourite film ever, but one no-one else has ever heard of? Tell me encouraging things, or funny stories about dating please? I've never asked anyone out before!
4. Thinking about signing up to a match making service (in person, not online) as I promised my friend I'd go on one date a month - she's decided it's time I dated, even if I don't meet the love of my life. Has anyone ever tried one of those? How did it go? I've done online dating before, with mixed success, but I thought I might try something new.
5. Survived christmas without murder and with my sanity intact - apparently that whole ignore and change the subject approach really does work, who knew?
Coming up next: half of the Christmas ficlets (I said they'd be new years, right?) Other half to come.
Oh, and before I forget: thank you,
somehowunbroken for the card, it was waiting for me when I got home!

I have no useful advice to offer on asking people out, but good luck! (My sister seems to have decided I need to start dating too. I'm not quite sure how she plans to see that it happens...)

How about you? Does your friend have good taste? Do you trust her to set you up?

But a more reserved approach in your starting situation sounds better. I see that you asked her, and sometimes the best thing to do in order to not be barking up the wrong tree [oh, how much heartbreak i have had there] is to come right out and say "I really like you. Like that." and let what happens happen. Even if it's not the outcome you were hoping for, you will live through it and learn something, and try again SOON.
Remember that you are a whip-smart, fantastically neat person and you deserve to have wonderful dates with other equally-awesome people.
GOOD LUCK! Oh, and take her a little flower, like a single daisy. [That's a surefire way to get make-outs from me.]
