I'm rather fascinated now by the idea of Sam loving hymns--it's how what I would have picked, but I love the complexity of what it suggests about her.

I'm not sure where the hymns came from. I think my Sam has an element of wanting to believe even though she can't, and the faith in hymns touches some of her faith in her team or her science or herself. And so maybe she sometimes tags along to church with Cam, and wonders what it would be like to feel whatever it is that he feels when he's there

When I did a "My Sam" I touched on what faith means to her, too, though a little differently. I think that's interesting, the way that comes up when thinking about her. I don't really think about it with any of the other characters, except maybe Cam.

At first I was going to ask for Rodney McKay. Not because I like the character. The opposite, in fact. But I've always liked the way you don't whitewash his jerkiness or pretend that it's actually believable that the other characters find his selfishness charming (e.g. your recent kink-meme story which has forever ruined any McShep bondage story for me). I think being the one who stayed behind when John fled probably changed him as much as being the one who fled changed John, but maybe in ways that made then more alike than they had been before. Because now John's scared of losing his team, and Dave of losing his kids - both family, though

I love this portrayal of Dave--so vanilla and normal and regretting his relationship with his brother and not knowing how to fix it. I especially love that his greatest fear is that he'll drive away one of his daughters; it's a nice comment on the character and both his regrets and the importance he places on family (which, I suspect, was one of the issues between him and John).

I encourage your fascination, especially if it leads to writing. :D I love stories about Dave, as long as they don't paint him as a moustache-twirling, one-dimensional villain, because I really don't think he is. Even if he was, in some respects, quite awful to John at the funeral.

10. Crushes She had a major crush on Teyla, and she has one now on Jennifer Keller, or at least Jennifer Keller as Lorne describes her. Also, the guy who runs the corner coffee shop on Sunday mornings, who grins at her and Jeanette when they go in for breakfast, and has introduced them to his boyfriend
11. Favorite music Anything with a beat that she can dance to. Her tap classes are to top 10 hits, though, so she associates those with things that make her feel good
12. Biggest fear She lost a lot of those when she left the marines, but she fears hearing that everyone she knows on Atlantis is dead, and she fears, in equal measure, Jeanette being offered something that will take her back where Laura can't follow
13. Biggest fantasy She would like to be able to get married and have it mean something everywhere. And lately, she's been thinking about applying to become and FBI agent, and dreams of running her own team
14. Quirks in bed She likes her sex to be fun, so there's lots of laughter, and a lot of poor jokes. Also, she totally loves having sex while one or both of them are still partly clothed, which is probably a holdover from all the times she had to do exactly that
15. Bad habits Forgeting to feed the cat when Jeanette's away. Though in her defence, it's Jeanette's cat

Biggest regret She doesn't believe in regrets; she thinks that everything happens as part of a bigger path to something else, and that if she's happy now, she wouldn't have been without everything that came first. (Though she wishes McKay had nevr accused her of trying to blow up the city. She knows that's part of why things are how they are, but she hates that her memory of Atlantis is touched with that betrayal). Also, she's not sure Carson was such a good idea
17. Best kept secrets It was her relationship with Jeanette, but she's traded that for keep aliens, other planets, and Atlantis a secret.
18. Last thought Actually, she's pretty sure she did forget to feed the cat this morning
19. Worst sexual/romantic experience Laura has had mostly good sex so far, and anticipates that continuing. Her worst romantic experience was her aborted relationship with Carson-she'd thought he'd be sweet, but he'd turned out to be too old-fashioned, and both jealous and clingy in ways that made her uncomfortable, and nearly got him punched by Lorne.
20. Biggest insecurity Laura is actually pretty secure in herself, her job, and her relationship. She's a woman in a man's field and holding her own, she lives with a woman she loves, and she's got friends she cares for and two families who love her. Makes it hard to have self-doubt
