Stargate Second Lives is looking for prompts for its second promptathon.

From [personal profile] paian's post: This promptathon is dedicated to giving a second chance to characters who died or were left behind in Stargate (SG-1 and SGA) canon, including entire races and places and civilizations. That extends to expanding the stories of one-shot, one-episode characters, and giving starring roles to secondary and supporting characters.

Ford. The Sodan. Heigthmeyer. Elizabeth Weir. Keres. Cadman. Lorne. Peter Grodin. Paul Emerson. Holland. Carolyn Lam. Jeannie Miller. Chaya. Amelia Banks. Katie Brown. Cassie Fraiser. Jack's clone. Paul Davies (Davis? I can never remember which is correct). Colonel Sumner. Colonel Everett. Alicia Vega. Alison Porter. Dusty Mehra. Anne Teldy. Nurse Marie. Lieutenant Kagan. Lieutenant Kemp. Markham (and Stackhouse). Parrish. Kanaan. Ladon Radim. Melena and the rest of the Satedans. Ronon's old team. Halling. Charin. Bates.

Plus, you know, eight seasons worth of dead and disappeared SG1 characters, of whom I assume there are many.

And Ford. The world needs more 'Ford gets saved/doesn't die' AUs.

[community profile] ladiesbigbang sign-ups open April 1 - a big bang (well, 15000 words) challenge for stories focussing on female characters.

The deadline isn't till August 1st, which is *ages* to write (about 1500 words a week).

I totally have a policy of '1 big bang per year only,' but I think I'm going to break it for this, and do my Keller/Vega season 5 au, because, like most things, it'll never get done without a deadline to make me do it.

[livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest is here again! Quite possibly my favourite ficathon of the year, for writing about characters who are LGBT being LGBT. Go, leave some prompts, if only because, right now, it feels like a lot of the prompts are coming out prmopts (could just be my perception) and it'd be nice to have some fic about what we do, you know, for the other 95% of our lives :)

I'm watching season 4 of The West Wing, which I've never seen before (I stopped watching partway through season 2 when it was airing, I can't remember why, then cried through the end of the last episode, because I'm a sap), and would like to say:

1. Nancy McNally is awesome, and I love how much they all respect her, especially Admiral Fitzwallace. Who is also damn cool.

2. I love CJ. So much. She's amazing.

3. Sam has a different office, right? Or they moved the furniture or something, but I'm sure he used to have a bookcase behind his desk.

4. CJ coming back to her briefing to announce the pipe bomb at the swim meet and all the dead students is possibly the most jarring thing I've seen on TV in ages. There's no indication that it's coming *at all* and then, there. It's very effective.

5. If I was Amy Gardner, I'd have kicked Josh long before now. I do not get what she's supposed to see in him.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon is running again for the first two weeks of February, for people to post female centric fic, art, recs, whatever. I'm not going to make every day, but I'm hoping to hit 4:
1. The depressing het break-up fic I was going on about before
2. The Simpson/Cadman fic I started ages ago, which, with (1) will complete the Dysfunction verse.
3. Something about Carolyn Lam.
4. Something about Zoey's secret service agent in season 1, Gina.

If you felt inclined to throw Carolyn-centric prompts (anything but something about her and Landry) my way, I would not say no.

This weekend's a bank holiday weekend in the UK so, all UK people on my flist, use your free day to write some 5 things fic! It's my first week modding at sg1 5 things in a while, and there are almost no responses to the prompts I picked, so take pity on me and go write for them. Membership of the comm is locked, but anyone can post in comments, anonymously or signed in. Deadline is Monday evening (BST):

5 secrets of Sheppard's that Sheppard doesn't know Lorne's discovered

5 aliens Cam will never forget

5 Earth customs Vala can't understand

5 ways SG1 got kicked out of a team-building retreat

5 scars Daniel wishes he didn't remember getting

Or if nothing there grabs you, go leave some prompts

[livejournal.com profile] sg1_jubilee just opened up sign-ups for this year's challenge, which includes crossovers with Atlantis. They need twelve sign-ups to be sure of running it and... well, currently I'm the only one.

Plus, it's being run by [livejournal.com profile] domtheknight, who frequently does an awesome job of betaing for me, so, go, sign up in honor of the fact that she makes my fic make sense :)

[livejournal.com profile] dvd_commentary is up and running again; for anyone who doesn't know, it's a chance to write a commentary on someone else's fic, assuming they give permission.

Sign-ups to write a commentary

Sign-ups to have your stories commented on/to see who's given permission

Should you be feeling a burning urge to write a commentary on one of my fics, have at it - say whatever you like on whatever you like. I want to do a commentary on one of [livejournal.com profile] ltlj's, because I *love* her stuff, but I can't pick just one (which is *such* a terrible dilemma to have!)

In other news, I've just been tapped to do the SGA recs on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van this month. I really want to make it a month of 12 non-John/Rodney recs (not that there's anything wrong with John/Rodney, obviously, but there are very many recs for stories with that pairing already). Except with maybe one exception, because I love it, and it didn't get the love it should have when it was released. So, hmm...

Edit: OK, I can't read, cos I'm actually doing SG1, not SGA. Which may be more difficult (and certainly have a lot less John/Rodney!)

In other other news: dissertation is over 2/3 done, yay; job has been found (actually 2 jobs - ah, the joys of needing a full-time salary but wanting jobs that are part-time); house has (hopefully) been found; 50 things about John and Cam has been written and is just waiting for the 4th to roll round; and, subject to me finishing my dissertation in the next few days, fic for [livejournal.com profile] _la_la_la will shortly be commenced, followed by [livejournal.com profile] livelongnmarry fic.

[livejournal.com profile] apocalypse_kree has just started collecting prompts (gen, het or slash) for this year's ficathon. It's primarily an SG-1 thing, although they do allow crossover prompts as long as there's at least one member of SG-1 involved. It's not the most cheerful of challenges (well, end of the world, you know) but it produced some great stories last year, and I had a great time writing for it.

So please, go leave prompts, or they'll all be Jack/Daniel, which would be a terrible thing (yes, I admit it, I've seen about three episodes with Jack in). And then sign up and write (it's a claiming a prompt thing, rather than an exchange.)
