As you can probably guess, my week got unexpectedly busy, and then I signed a contract for a new flat so I'm moving. Hence, it's entirely possible I won't end up writing to all of your getting together prompts, my apologies.

However, here are three that I did manage...

I'm sure I've done this more than once before, but it's been a while so I'm stealing it from [livejournal.com profile] somehowunbroken:

Give me a ship, and I’ll tell you how they got together. (Two or three people to a ship, but please no more than that.) It can be as realistic or as cracky as you want, but be forewarned, I’m not promising a happy get-together, just one that I can realistically see happening.

Though I'm in a happy morning place at the moment (I know, I know, I'm sure it will pass!) so you might get more happy than depressing.

From the 'forget keep calm, it's time for equal marriage' thing that's going around:

I know I'm preaching to the choir with you guys when it comes to LGBT equality, but believing something is fair and actually getting off your bum and doing something about it doesn't always follow like it should. So here's a little (and slightly preachy) reminder!!

Wow, sorry I'm not being a good enough lesbian in this campaign!

I really hope this was started by someone who's queer, not someone who's straight, or at least that it's targeted at straight people. Because otherwise, nice job telling the people who will benefit from this change that they should be taking action about it, and specifically the action that whoever created the post thinks is the right action.

I'm not sure exactly why this gets at me so much when I'm sure it was done for good reasons, but how much do I hate the undertone of 'if you don't act, it'll be your fault that the measure doesn't get passed, and to hell with societal prejudice and how 500,000 people have signed a petition against gay marriage. Nope, it's your fault for being a bad queer person and not getting active.'

I just got called a hysterical female by an assistant at Timpsons (for non-UK folks, they cut keys).

Way to make sure I never buy anything there ever again!

Particularly since all I was doing was calling to complain that only 3 out of the 10 keys I just had cut actually worked. No apology, when I pressed it, sarcastically asked if I wanted him to get down on his hands and knees, and then told I sounded like a hysterical female.

So, not only can they not cut keys that work (or am I supposed to use them to decorate my office?) but they're also rude and sexist. Anyone know a good key cutting service? I seem to be in need of one!

Ah, the joys of medication withdrawal. How much I didn't miss randomly crying in coffee shops for no reason.

I'm sticking it out for a week (maybe two, we'll see how it is when I get to the end of the first week) before I start thinking about abandoning this whole coming off anti-depressants thing. So far, it's more of a 'if tomorrow isn't better, I'm going back on them,' thing though, with a bit of, to hell with this that usually is gone by the morning.

In the mean-time, I've started:
1. A follow-up fic to Gone, in which they rescue Kaylee
2. A follow-up fic to Baby Steps, in which I'm not at all sure what will happen
3. A fic about a waitress who meets a hot military girl at an event and has sex with her
4. A fic about a girl who keeps running into the same woman at weddings.

I have not, as it happens, finished any of them. None of them are what I want to be writing right now.

Want to leave me angsty prompts? I can't promise to write all of them (or possibly any of them, given that my concentration span currently feels like it's about 10 minutes!) but I'll take anything: character death, torture, kidnap, divorce, relationships ending, you name it, if it's angsty, I'll take it.

Okay, well today has been a mess of weirdness and stupidity (mostly by other people, which may make it worse, actually), and also, I have hatred in my heart for facebook (and maybe also twitter). And Microsoft Office. But mainly facebook. It's just so illogical to me - can't I take a class or something? Or move to another social networking service that actually, you know, makes sense and lets me do what I want?

Actually, can anyone give me a suggestion for a good place to set up a quick and simple webpage for a tiny (two person) training company?

That aside, the good news is that I now have internet and phone access again, after five days of not, mainly through being messed around by my phone company (I'd change, but honestly, I think the experience would drive me up the proverbial wall). Did I miss anything since Saturday?

I'm pretty sure I was planning to say something intelligent but I have no idea what it was. I'm done with today and going to bed. Night all!

Had a meeting with my PhD supervisor this morning in which I had to admit that I haven't done any work for the last couple of months (with good reasons, but still). She was great and really supportive about it, and actually managed to make me feel motivated again (I got turned down for funding again, which killed any motivation to work on it, as I'm not sure I've the time or the money to carry on next year).

Also, I've been rewatching The West Wing lately. I started with season five, so towards the end of their run, and when I got to the end, went back to the start of season one. The contrast between the two halves (Aaron Sorkin years v John Wells years) is incredibly jarring like this, and I have to admit, I think the end is better than the beginning because:

1. CJ Cregg: it becomes more and more her story as we get to the end and I love that. I love that she's in control and brilliant but not perfect, and I love that people stop treating her (and she stops being written) as though she's slightly hopeless, and that people stop saying things like ambition being a bad thing for a woman to have

2. Donna Moss: I love that she takes control of her future. She leaves Josh, she joins Russell's campaign, she's respected and promoted and recruited later on, and then she becomes the First Lady's Chief of Staff. And she takes the lead in her relationship with Josh, sets her boundaries, and enforces them. By the end of season 7, I swear she's my favourite character.

3. Santos' campaign team: women! Lots of them! And they're different, and have different skills and different roles, and they're all good at what they do. And respected for it. And we sometimes see them talk to each other. (Honestly, early TWW, how many non-assistant/wife women did we see? Two? Very poor, show!)

4. Women: working together. Talking. Having friendships. Amy comes back. Kate Harper appears and sticks around. Margaret. Joey Lucas (and how much do I love that the two of them are pregnant and there's never any mention of the man and it's not big deal?) Ellie, Zoey, Liz.

5. Also, because it doesn't have the things I hated about the early seasons: no magically disappearing apparently forgotten Mandy (though I'd have loved for her to come back). No Ainsley Hayes (loved the idea of her, hated how they executed it and made her not just anti-feminist but an idiot about it: women didn't need the ERA because they're covered by the constitution? Now, sure, but then? No. That she never recognised that makes her look stupid).

Although I gotta say: I wish Vinick had won. At least he was pro-choice for real, not like Santos, who pretended to be in order to win. And also that they hadn't thrown in Ellie being totally straight, no for real, we swear and ps thank God she is. What was that about?

Still, can't have everything, I suppose.

Hmm, well, nothing super-good to talk about today - I have a cold and feel like I can't breathe, which isn't much, and it's been pouring with rain most of today.

On the bright side, however:
My friends' lists are full of lovely people who are sweet and kind and supportive when I need them. Which I already knew, but I just wanted to point it out again and say thank you. I'm hoping to reply to your comments, but I can't promise, sorry. But thank you, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

Also, tomorrow is craft club, which is always fun, and I'm going to a bird reserve with a friend on Sunday (well, assuming it isn't still raining.)

So, I've been on anti-depressants for a year and a half - it was supposed to be 6 months - and tried coming off them this time last year, which was not a success or much fun (obviously, or I wouldn't still be on them).

I had a review with my doctor yesterday, at which she asked me whether I thought I'd just keep taking them, or wanted to see again. The thought of trying again and it being like last time is kind of terrifying, but I do want to know whether I need them still - I don't exactly mind keeping taking them if I need to (I'm pretty sure, and so is my doctor, that my depression is a brain chemistry thing, not an external event thing) but I feel like I want to know if I need to, if that makes sense. Plus, right now, things are actually pretty good - no big events coming up, no anticipated disappointments etc, so it's as good a time as any.

So I'm trying again, and kind of scared. Which I'm trying to deal with by putting in as many things that help. One of which is trying to post every day, with things that have gone well that day (well, except tomorrow when I'm working 9am-11pm). So I guess this is your advanced warning. Hi :)
